Although the country went up four notches scoring 4.53 out of 10 in terms of the most promising emerging logistics markets in the world this year, it lagged behind South Asian neighbours India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

India ranked second, Pakistan 26th and Sri Lanka was positioned 30th among the countries, according to the 14th annual edition of the index unveiled by Agility, a Kuwait-based global logistics company, revealed on Tuesday.

Bangladesh has been stuck at the lowest position among the South Asian economies since 2019.

China made the top spot. The UAE, Malaysia and Indonesia ranked third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Index examined four key areas for logistics market development — domestic logistics opportunities, international logistics opportunities, business fundamentals, and digital readiness – to assess and understand trends and their effects on 50 of the world’s most promising emerging logistics markets.

The index presented a data-driven analysis of the markets, reflecting the complexity, connectedness and opportunities each market provides, Agility said in its report.

In the index, Bangladesh has been named among the countries making significant moves up or down. Other countries include India, Ghana, Argentina, Iran, Mexico, Pakistan, Lebanon, Colombia, Jordan, Sri Lanka, Bahrain, Cambodia, South Africa, Tanzania, Turkey, Ethiopia, Bolivia, and Paraguay.
