A man and a woman were arrested after investigators uncovered a “significant grow operation” where 12 pounds of cannabis and several other drugs were found at a Crystal Lake home.
Sarah E. Wise, 43, of Crystal Lake, was charged with possession of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis with the intent to deliver, possession of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis, unlawful production of cannabis sativa plants and four counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Johnathon C. Coulman, 41, of Crystal Lake, was charged with possession of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis with the intent to deliver, possession of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis, unlawful production of cannabis sativa plants and four counts of possession of a controlled substance.
McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney Ken Hudson said in court documents that the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant on Tuesday.
The warrant took place at Wise and Coulman’s residence in the 3000 block of Red Barn Road in unincorporated Crystal Lake.
Officers discovered approximately 81 cannabis plants growing, 12 pounds of dried cannabis and other indicia “of a significant grow operation,” Hudson said.
The total value of the cannabis products discovered was approximately $24,900, Hudson said.
A criminal complaint said Coulman and Wise also possessed under 15 grams of a substance containing MDMA, under 200 grams of a substance containing codeine, under 200 grams of a substance containing tramadol and under 200 grams of a substance containing psilocybin.
Prosecutors filed a motion requesting a judge verify the funds used to post bond for both suspects due to the possibility the funds could come from narcotics trafficking.
A judge ordered Wise held on a $100,000 bond.
A judge ordered Coulman, who has a prior criminal conviction for possessing a controlled substance, held on a $200,000 bond.
A motion filed by Wise’s attorney said she has a friend who could post the $10,000 cash needed for her release.
Wise is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday for a hearing on the motion to compel bond funds.
Coulman is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday for a bond review hearing.
